R.I.P. Sweetheart

Today my old beautiful lady "Anastasia" died. She was the last cavy from my big threesome. She was 7 years old, so yes, she was an old lady. But it's still weird to not having her here anymore. She was such a special lady.

Lately she really got old, she lost some weight and her digestion wasn't the best anymore. Two days ago I found a pus-filled something on the left side of her mouth. I had something like that before with her daughter - Cassius - and I already decided to not get Anastasia into a surgery. She was too old and too small, I wouldn't do that.

Today I went to the vet and she found another pus-filled thing on the other side and something in her stomach.

I wanted my old lady to get old in health and to die happily ... to just fall asleep. But it doesn't seem to work that way. I didn't want to extend the inevitable just to keep her alive for a few more weeks or months with medicine and/or surgery.

So I decided to let her go.
She fell asleep in my arms.

RIP my beautiful lady, I love you.

I'm really sorry for your lost. I know how you feel. My 2 year old golden retriever got bone cancer. It got so bad so quickly, we ended up putting her asleep. It's a hard lost, but at least Anastasia is no longer in pain and she had a good 7 years.

I really hope she wasn't in pain!
I hope I did the right thing... I mean, I really wanted her to have a good life and a dignified dead, she was the oldest cavy I've ever had.

Thanks for your kind words.

Awwww, Steffi, I'm so sorry to hear that. But it's better for her like that and she had a love-filled life with you. Hugs you tight, Rena ♥

Yeah, that's what I try to think about it.
But I miss her.

So sorry for your loss, sweetie. At least she went peacfully and in your arms. My vet makes house call in those instances when people want to do this at home, and I am so thankful for that.

Remember her fondly!

Peace!

I hope he realized that I was there for her.

I hadn't planned to let her go when I went to the vet, honestly. I didn't know there was so much wrong then. I thought I could still give her some good last weeks.

I do remember her fondly, she was my beauty.

So sorry! Now your second "old" friend is gone, too...and leaves you and the young one alone. At least you had good and many years together, and it's good that you spared her more pain. I send you huge hugs!!!! Pet

[identity profile] soulmatejunkee.livejournal.com 2011-09-11 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Actually it's the fourth old friend... first my Picasso, my one and only, my best, I cried so hard when he died. Then his (and Anastasias) daughter, Cassius. She was such a sweetheart, but she was sick. And then Eule in June and now Anastasia.

The "old gang" is gone now. It feels weird.

It is always so hard to say goodbye to a pet as they are definitely part of the family and provide such good companionship. I had to say goodbye to my cat in December and still miss him everyday. Sending you some *hugs*
